The wait is almost over. On previous visits to Disney World, I’ve watch “Pandora – The World of Avatar” rise from the ground up and this Saturday it’s finally open to the public. Oh yes, you may have seen a lucky few in the news get a sneak peek – at that’s going to be me this Thursday and Friday! I’ll be live heading into Memorial Day Weekend with plenty to tell you about the hottest and most anticipated new land within Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
So what might I see? Nothing like we’ve ever seen before. Alpha Centauri Expeditions has [More]

There’s so much going on at the Suncoast Animal League! I stopped in recently and met this pint-size cutie with awesome radar ears. This is 8-year-old Little Man. He’s a spunky pint sized pup with a giant personality. He’s quite comical and will have you laughing all the time. When I met him he spoke right up and let me know among all the bigger dogs he wanted to make himself known. And he sure did.
Little Man is smart and highly treat motivated. He’s just 14 lbs., crate-trained and walks well on leash. He is also friendly, energetic, and very [More]

Hurricane Preparedness Week is here and you’re thinking, already? Oh yes. We’ve already had our first named storm – that was Arlene in late April. And despite being in the midst of one of the worst droughts we’ve had in Tampa Bay in a long time it’s time to make sure you’re ready for the season. Expectations are for a possibly calmer season than usual but as we always say, it only takes one. We’ll make sure you know what’s going on when the severe weather threatens along with the Stormtracker 10 team from WTSP Ten News.
So what [More]

It’s time for the 3rd Annual Riverfest in downtown Tampa, running the entire length of the Riverwalk! Our weekend weather looks just perfect for Saturday and Sunday’s events. Executive Director Jason Carroll told me there’s a lot to check out, like one of the new events this year – the Hot Dog Festival in conjunction with Nathan’s Hot Dogs. The Hot Dog Eating Contest will be inside Curtis Hixon Park on Saturday, May 6th. And it’s not just a local chow-down; one man and one women finalist will head off to The Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest [More]

Yesterday was Give Day Tampa Bay and thanks to your generosity many Bay area charities will be able to continue their work. I had the pleasure of introducing you to one of mine live on Facebook so you could learn a little bit more about the work of the Suncoast Animal League. Every donation makes a difference, and Executive Director Rick Chaboudy was so proud of everyone who took the time to log on and make donations. SAL won one a $1,000 bonus prize, and out of almost 600 groups came in 4th in fund raising. Wonderful job, [More]

It’s Sunday afternoon and I’m enjoying my last day of vacation, watching the replay of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. Journey has just been inducted, Steve Perry receiving a massive ovation and showing the love to all his bandmates. I’ve heard that from all the inductees – it’s not all about them. It’s about what brought them to this point. The support from family, friends, fans and the industry is and always will be the recipe for success. I’ve waited a while to write this latest entry on my personal wellness journey because quite honestly it’s taken [More]

This week our Pet of the Week from the Suncoast Animal League is a real beauty – and hello ears!!! This lovely lady is Audrey. She’s a 3-year-old, 48 lb. Vizsla mix currently available for adoption at our shelter. This happy and silly girl is confident and always in a good mood. You can’t help but be happy around her.
Potty trained and active, Audrey gets along great with other dogs her size or smaller. She hasn’t been around cats so we’re not sure if she would be good with them. A fenced yard is required for this pup who [More]

There’s nothing I love more than puttering in my butterfly garden on a cool morning. But that garden needs the bees! This Earth Day I’d like to introduce you to Matthew Shepherd of The Xerces Society and the new book “100 Plants To Feed The Bees”. How many stories have you read lately that highlight how threatened bees are? They’re losing their natural habitats to overdevelopment, the use of insecticides and pesticides and changes in our environment. And that phrase “busy as a bee” couldn’t be closer to the truth – they a critical part of a healthy environment that [More]

Friday, April 21st marks the one-year anniversary of the shocking news of Prince’s death. Author Ben Greenman has a new book that’s not a gossipy tell-all, but rather a tribute to the icon and what defined his life and his music.
If you want to know what the creative process was like for the Prince of Paisley Park and why he had to go to war with his own record label this is the book with the answers. But what about those other tasty tidbits of knowledge that real fans already know, but are new to you? And one of [More]

Remember this story?
We have something special to share with you! It’s not often that the Suncoast Animal League gets domestic bunnies coming through the shelter, but we have a pair who have been together most of their lives and are attached at the hip, so to say. Meet Cupcake (white & black) and Camo (stripes). Cupcake is 5-years-old and was born in a bunny rescue so she has always been an indoor pet. She loves her blue igloo and to snuggle in a soft blanket. Camo is probably 5 or 6-years-old. He was rescued from a horse farm years ago and has [More]
