As I am reminded year after year…”it’s the most wonderful time of the year!” And no, it’s not Christmas. Well, okay, for some of you it is. Spring training is underway and I’ve always loved checking out the team before the regular season gets underway. All that hope! We’re so lucky to have so many teams making Tampa Bay their spring training home, and to catch the Rays it’s an easy trip down to Port Charlotte. Check the schedule here, and make sure to take our Dove Poll this week. What kind of year do you think it [More]

Have A Heart For National Wear Red Day

  • 3:01 pm Tuesday, January 31st, 2017 by Ann Kelly

There are hungry hearts, foolish hearts and broken hearts. But those hearts pale in comparison to the real thing which is why Friday. February 3rd means so much to women. It’s National Wear Red Day. This is the day we stop to take stock of our heart health and pass along to other women why it’s so important to know how to take care of ourselves, to know the symptoms of a heart attack. It’s not a lot of work when you have the American Heart Association on our side along with the excellent men and women in [More]

The “Potato Pups”

  • 5:55 am Tuesday, January 31st, 2017 by Ann Kelly

There is no one that can tell an animal’s story like Suncoast Animal League Executive Director Rick Chaboudy. From the rescues of maybe one pup or kitty, to eleven rambunctious and fairly wild “potato pups” Rick has seen it all – almost. But this most recent rescue was a tough one that is having a happy ending thanks to the many volunteers, fosters and “puppy cuddlers” that have stepped forward to make sure that the poor little pups that were covered with fleas when they were rescued have happy homes. Their distinctive look comes from a whole lot of [More]

Read Your Way To Your Own Ann-Venture

  • 8:01 am Saturday, January 21st, 2017 by Ann Kelly

Yes, I love to read and how I wish I had more spare time to do so. That sentence is going to change. I think it’s a matter of survival in a way. Let me ask you this; how much stress are you under on a daily basis? Okay. Let’s go from there. When I knew that life was controlling me and not the other way around I made myself a few promises. You’ve probably read one of those if you follow me on Facebook. Lunch at the beach at least once a week. Well let me amend that. Lunch in [More]

Sal’s Got Talent – How About You?

  • 4:12 pm Saturday, December 17th, 2016 by Ann Kelly

For Sal Valentinetti, that Golden Buzzer from Heidi Klum on “America’s Got Talent” Season 11 was just the start of many incredible moments for the 21-year old from Long Island. Sal may not have won, but placing in the top five is pretty impressive and he’s never left the spotlight.

Sal is charming, talented and still humble enough to remember where he came from and how fleeting fame can be. But his stop in our Circle K Performance Theater was not only a real treat for me but for many of the staff who dropped in to say hello and get [More]

Win “Homeward Bound – The Life of Paul Simon”

  • 7:07 am Sunday, December 4th, 2016 by Ann Kelly

I was flipping through the channels recently and came up on a replay of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel’s “Concert in Central Park” reunion from 1981. Over half a million people were in the park to hear from the duo that had broken up some ten years before that. It was not a pleasant split but they took the stage that August night to help raise money to renovate Central Park. So what happened?

That and more questions are answered in the newest biography from Peter Ames Carlin. Peter wrote another of my favorite rock bios about Bruce Springsteen, and [More]

Add “Alexander Hamilton” To Your Collection

  • 9:55 am Sunday, November 27th, 2016 by Ann Kelly

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamilton” continues to be one of the hottest tickets on Broadway, winning eleven Tony Awards including Best Musical this past season. It was a biography from Ron Chernov that was Miranda’s inspiration for the show, but now add “Alexander Hamilton” by Richard Sylla to the mix and we get an even fresher look at one our founding fathers who was so much more than  just the loser in a duel. Miranda is actually a friend of Sylla who’s been fortunate enough to see the show three times. So of course that did come up in our [More]
