american-heart-associationThere are hungry hearts, foolish hearts and broken hearts. But those hearts pale in comparison to the real thing which is why Friday. February 3rd means so much to women. It’s National Wear Red Day. This is the day we stop to take stock of our heart health and pass along to other women why it’s so important to know how to take care of ourselves, to know the symptoms of a heart attack. It’s not a lot of work when you have the American Heart Association on our side along with the excellent men and women in our health system to guide us along the way to better heart health.

One of those is the Florida Hospital Zephyrhills Chief of Cardiology, Ghazanfar Khadim, MD. Dr. Khadim and I talked about how important it is to know about our heart health and when to pay attention to the symptoms we might otherwise might write off as nothing. That could cost us more than a stay in the hospital. It could cost us our life.

group-red-horizSo please make it a point to listen to my chat with Dr. Khadim, and then enter to win a gift pack from your American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Tampa Bay by taking our Heart Poll. We’ll choose one name at random for the pack and award it on February 7th. It has a nice American Heart Association cookbook, a Go Red For Women bedazzled mug, a Go Red For Women red dress necktie, three red dress pins, and two travel first aid kits from FL Hospital. Oh, and please take a minute to participate in our new poll and let’s see how we’re all doing with those resolutions for better health.

There’s also the opportunity to be a part of two casting calls to share your story. The Casting Call provides our community with a storytelling platform that honors and celebrates lives touched by heart disease and stroke, and educates and empowers all women to make their health a priority.

The American Heart Association and Florida Hospital invite heart disease and stroke survivors, caregivers, and heart health advocates to share their story as part of the Tampa Bay Go Red For Women Casting Call! Testimonies will be featured in a short film at the 2017 Go Red for Women Luncheon in May. Don’t forget to wear red! Here’s where to go:
