It’s time for us to check in with the Suncoast Animal League and a new pet of the week. And she’s GORGEOUS! If you’re looking for a SUPER CALM kitty who just likes to chill, a kitty that wants to hang out, be quiet and be still we have her! Oh, and better yet if you want company, but aren’t looking for high feline entertainment, look no further than our sweet Ms Abby! This 6-year-old Siamese mix kitty is the perfect fit for someone who is relaxed and wants a kitty to curl up nearby and watch movies with. She wants to [More]

You know what happens when I started typing in “Florida parks” and “black bears?” I find the Black Bear Scenic Byway for my new Ann-Venture through the Ocala National Forest. The Byway is 60 miles worth of incredible scenery and home to the largest population of black bears in our state. It’s also a great chance to do some off roading (and NOT in a Honda HRV) to experience what is called “The Big Scrub.” Oh yes, I did get to see some of it. It’s an area without much water, and the sand pine forest had adapted, [More]

Our pets of the week from The Suncoast Animal League arrived in rough shape. Executive Director Rick Chaboudy has been keeping us to date on their situation and what they are doing to help these 24 – yes, I said 24 Maltese & Shih Tzus – that were rescued recently and some were in pretty rough shape when they arrived. So many volunteers have put in serious hours just trying to get them groomed and set for the vet and much needed medical attention. Please take a look at just how much work is [More]

I’ve said it more than once. There are times when I think how lucky I am that I have a job I just love, that allows me to do incredible things like ride along with the great guys from the city of Tampa when the Hillsborough River was died green. It’s the hallmark of the “Mayor’s River O Green Festival” that draw thousands down to Curtis Hixon Park each year to line the Riverwalk to watch the magic happen. That’s a pretty nice view. But actually being on the boat that does the work was just [More]

This is going to be fun! Make sure you’re logged on to Facebook this Saturday morning and watch with me as the Hillsborough River is turned green. It’s St Patrick Day weekend, and we’ll be celebrating at the Mayor’s River O Green Festival. I’ll be onboard the boats as they kick off the morning magically giving the Hillsborough River the perfect shade of green for celebrating all day long. But it’s a party with an important purpose. In the spirit of St. Patrick, any attendee who brings three non-perishable food items will receive a green “Saint Patrick’s Army” [More]

Need a smile sometime today? We have the perfect pick-me-up with the new Puppy and Kitten Cam you’ll only find in Ann-Ventures. Check in with some of the sweet little furry friends from The Suncoast Animal League, and to find your own furever friend pay them a visit at the shelter on Pennsylvania Avenue in Palm Harbor or at any of their fun-raisers. We recently spent a a picture perfect day under the oaks in Highlander Park in Dunedin for Mutt Madness with 70 adoptions! I’m so excited! Saturday, more pets will find their forever homes at our 11th Annual Mutt Madness in Highlander Park, Dunedin. The Suncoast Animal League and The Dove will back under the oaks with some 100 dogs that have been living with loving volunteer foster families and some from their shelter in Palm Harbor just waiting to meet you. All week long in Ann-Ventures we’ve been introducing to some of them. Here’s our final group that would like to get to know you – and remember so many more than this will be there on Saturday.
Mia is a lovely [More]

Some people give up on an pet that’s not “perfect.” That’s not how they roll at the Suncoast Animal League and the story of Spicie is a solid example of that. You can meet Spicie and check out her cool new wheels this Saturday at Mutt Madness!
Spicie’s Story by Rick Chaboudy
We met Spicie while we were rescuing dogs at Angel Dog Rescue in mid-January 2017. For nearly two years prior, she was with that rescue group. While there, she was able to exercise only for short periods of time in a cart which she had long-ago outgrown. Her front legs [More]

Here’s our latest sweet, furry friend that will be at Mutt Madness this weekend, and is ready for a new home. I’ll let the Suncoast Animal League’s Annette Dettloff and Georgie’s foster dad tell his story.
Georgie is a good looking and jovial 2-year-old. He’s a whole mish-mosh of breeds including Great Dane, Lab, maybe some Collie and who knows what else. His foster dad says he definitely has the cool, fun and mellow temperament of a Lab and Great Dane. His foster dad sent this message from Georgie…

I love the Suncoast Animal League’s Mutt Madness! So many furever friends get to meet and greet us and so many find that new home. All week we’re introducing you to just a few of the pets you’ll meet this Saturday in Highlander Park in Dunedin. Today, we’d like you to meet Dave.
Oh my goodness, just look at this handsome fluff! Dave is a 3-month-old mutt of a mutt of a mutt. He’s cute. He’s smart. And he loves everyone…all humans (adult AND child sizes), dogs and cats. He also has the softest puppy fur. Aww!!
Dave is curious and [More]
