Our latest Pet of the Week from the Suncoast Animals League has a mommy cat who’s little ones were adopted recently, and now she needs her own forever own. And what a cutie! This lovely lady is April. You may recall hearing about two kittens who went up for adoption last month named August and January. Her kittens have found their forever homes and now it’s mom’s turn.
April came to Suncoast Animal League pregnant. Fortunately for her, one of our very experienced kitty foster families took her in and made her comfortable before she gave birth to her two [More]

I’ve passed the sign so many times heading north on 19 through Citrus County for the Yulee Sugar Mill Ruins and never stopped. I changed that this weekend and found another Florida treasure that you’ll want to visit yourself. It’s the oldest standing historic structure in Citrus County and is an official state park. What is now a state park was once of sugar plantation owned by David Levy Yulee, a native of St Thomas. Operating in the Civil War era is supplied Southern troops with sugar products, but in 1864 Union forces burned the Yulee home down. The [More]

I just had to share this with you from the Suncoast Animal League’s newsletter. Ralphie is doing so well, and just like any kid who starts to feel better after any injury he still needs to be watched. But I’ll let him tell you what’s up!

My newest Ann-Venture may not be repeated. Not without someone else along. Now, I say that jokingly, but like all wildlife areas in Florida I go with caution since I’m the intruder here. That being said, let me introduce you to the phenomenal wild beauty of Highland Hammocks State Park.
It’s a bit of a drive from my house (just under two hours) in Highland County but well worth my trip on a Sunday morning. Heading down 75, then straight across 64 I took note of just how many bridges there were to cross over. There was the Peace River, Troublesome [More]

It’s not the end of the world or the zombie apocalypse but Monday will be a day to remember for a long time. After all, the last time we had an eclipse that will cross the US from coast to coast was 99 years ago. I had a very interesting conversation with award-winning historian of astronomy Steve Ruskin PhD, author of the new book “America’s First Great Eclipse: How Scientists, Tourists and the Rocky Mountain Eclipse of 1878 Change Astronomy Forever.” Face it. The solar eclipse is like the Super Bowl of celestial events for the scientific community. I’ve [More]

This Thursday, August 17th is National Thrift Shop Day! I don’t have to tell you about the wonders of wandering aisles of your favorite thrift shop for bargains, treasures and unexpected finds. But taking a whole day to celebrate – why not! I have two favorites that I’m in quite a bit.
First of all the Empath Hospice Thrift Shop is a wonderful way to support the work of Empath Health. You’ve heard me talk about them many times on the air, and I’ve had the honor of hosting many events. Every extra dollar is a blessing to their [More]

There was a moment last weekend when I truly realized what a difference the invaluable assistance from BayCare for my diet and exercise plan has made. I was home for my nephew Danny’s wedding on Saturday, and Sunday my sister Tricia, brother in law Sal, my nephew young Sal and I took my Mom out for some fresh air on an incredibly beautiful day. Brandywine Falls in Peninsula is a lovely place to walk but this past weekend it was just so over the top with a tremendous display of wildflowers everywhere. The walking trails were busy so Tricia [More]
