Remember our good buddie Ralphie? Well, he’s nearing the nine week mark since his very difficult surgery. Here’s what the Suncoast Animal League has to say.
As far as Ralphie is concerned, he has healed perfectly. However, that’s for Dr. Hay, the “doggie bones doctor” to decide on Thursday during Ralphie’s final vet check up. Once Ralphie is cleared, it will be time for him to go to his forever home. You know what that means, right? It’s time for us to select Ralphie’s adoption family so he can be a part of this weekend’s big adoption event at the PetSmart in Countryside.
First, a little about Ralphie. Ralphie is going on 9-months-old, weighs 28 lbs. and we don’t expect him to grow any taller. He is SUCH a snuggler and loves to curl up on your lap. However, he’s very active and has never met a toy he didn’t like. He is relentless and tireless and if a toy is not available, he will find something to become his toy, like your foot or the leg of another dog. You might say that some dogs would consider him a pest, but as relentless as he is, he typically gets the other dog to play with him so “all’s well that ends well.”
Ralphie loves going places and because of his new found fame, he believes he is a “man about town.” Ralphie LOVES children. He is good with cats, but can tend to chasing if the cat is nervous around dogs. As for dogs, he considers ALL OTHER DOGS to be his playmates, whether they want to or not. Ralphie is crate trained and 95% potty trained. He may be the world’s sloppiest drinker, as his big giant gums work like a watering can that has sprung a leak.
Given an inch, Ralphie will take about 2.6 miles so he needs to know that he is not actually the boss, regardless of what he thinks. He is getting better about understanding that he can’t do everything he wants, but he is stubborn and his forever family will need to be patient. And did I mention, he is relentless and tireless?? All in all, Ralphie is a really great little guy! The person or family who adopts him will be truly lucky. Interested in adopting Ralphie? Because we suspect a long line of people wanting to take him home, we have come up with a specialized application. If you would like to be considered in the running, please email us at Foster@SuncoastAnimalLeague.org and we will send you the application. But HURRY!!! The deadline to submit completed applications is Thursday, September 21st at 5pm. We will notify Ralphie’s new forever person or family on Friday by 5pm.
