As we wrap up October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I first of all want to thank you for your support of our Making Strides against Breast Cancer walk. It’s so exciting to see more and more of you each year at the Shoppes of Wiregrass at Wesley Chapel. Your energy is amazing! I know how much it means to our survivors to return and share their stories, and to honor the memory of those who have lost their fight. But with each walk, each event we come closer and closer to that day when we can say we live in a world where there is a cure.
I’ve met so many of you and heard your stories, and I wanted to share one more with you. I had a wonderful conversation with Caitlin Kiernan to hear about her new book “Pretty Sick: The Beauty Guide for Women with Cancer.” The title is more than appropriated for Caitlin who is a breast cancer survivor but as a young, single woman and a working professional wanted to know more about how her treatment would affect her physically. Caitlin took advantage of her background as a long-time beauty director to do the research and find the answers that so many women have when undergoing treatment. The most asked? “Will I lose my hair?” But it certainly does not end there.
If you haven’t scheduled your mammogram yet or have concerns about it talk with the team from Baycare. Then please talk with your doctor as soon as possible and let’s strike fear into cancer and take control! Remember, it’s in our hands.
