With my schedule I always see more of the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet than the actual big game. This year it’s very big and exciting news for the Suncoast Animal League as two of their puppies will be on the Puppy Bowl team! Executive Director Rick Chaboudy made the official announcement earlier this week:
“The Suncoast Animal League is pawsitively thrilled to announce we have two puppy players in this year’s PUPPY BOWL XIV. The cutest competition in sports history airs Sunday, February 4th at 3:00pm on Animal Planet. Kelly Barkson and Henry storm the GEICO gridiron and make the cutest ear pulls and tail tugs as part of Team Ruff and Team Fluff as they compete to win the CHEWY.COM Lombarky Trophy.
Both Kelly Barkson and Henry were rescued from Pasco County Animal Services. Kelly Barkson, a Golden Retriever/Lab mix, was rescued on August 2nd at just 8-weeks-old. Henry, a Catahoula mix, was 6-weeks-old when he was rescued on July 14th. We are proud to announce both puppies have since been adopted. Kelly Barkson and Henry, along with 90 adoptable puppies from 48 shelters and rescues across the country, go paw to paw and nose to nose for the in the ultimate matchup between “Team Ruff” vs. “Team Fluff.”
The Suncoast Animal League is now into their 11th year and made very impressive strides. A Guinness World Record for most costumed dogs, hundreds of adoptions at Mutt Madness and Dogtoberfest, their recent trip to Puerto Rico to rescue pets left behind after Hurricane Maria, the new Thrift Shop….well, you get the idea. The staff and volunteers have such a strong love and devotion for the many animals that have come through. That includes dogs, cats, squirrels, pigs and many others.
Let’s all show some love for the pups! Join the Suncoast Animal League and meet their two Puppy Bowl stars, Kelly Barkson and Henry, for the 4th Annual Puppy Bowl Fundraiser to benefit the Suncoast Animal League, 1:00 – 5:00 pm, February 4th, at the Dog House of Safety Harbor and 8th Avenue Pub, 737 Main St, Safety Harbor. There will be vendors, drinks, food, shopping and a LIVE Puppy Bowl before the Animal Planet televised special on a big screen TV. I’d be happy to tell you more about it here, and make sure you stay in touch for more opportunities to support the work of the League by volunteering, donating and adopting. Take a look below at just a few of the amazing times I’ve had with Rick and the gang with so many more to come!
